INFO: Downgrading 3.1 to 3.0

If you were lucky enough to have your ECID details captured by Cydia, you can perform a downgrade of your 3GS from firmware 3.1 down to 3.0. Details in Saurik’s (@saurik) blog post.

I managed to do mine but not without some heartstopping moments. Due to the upgraded baseband, the 3.0 downgrade doesn’t fully complete. Saurik advises using Redsn0w to just perform the jailbreak which will kick the iPhone back to a booting state. Unfortunately this won’t work for those of us on official carriers as Redsn0w will install activation bundles leaving the iPhone with no GSM network access.

Fix is to use iRecovery to set the iPhone boot flag so that it will start up an connect to iTunes and get activated. Google is a wonderful tool to figure these things out.

Too bad there is no way to get up to 3.01.

Hopefully the 3GS 3.1 jailbreak will not be too far behind today’s 3.1 jailbreak for other iPhone models.

Because Apple doesn’t let me do the following things:

1. I jailbreak to change some of the tones e.g. soften the keyclick, soften the lock/unlock sound, make one of the SMS tones louder as I find the defaults too soft

2. To run Intelliscreen – just so that I can have a continual reminder every 2 minutes if I miss a call, an SMS or a calendar item. Yes I know the SMS tone repeats but what about other missed items??

They don’t seem like terribly hard things for Apple to do to allow me to change system sounds the way I can change a ringtone and to extend the reminder system beyond SMSes?
